# Directions:
01 - In a bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
02 - Incorporate the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until fully combined.
03 - Gradually add the flour and salt, mixing just until the dough forms.
04 - Shape the dough into a disk, wrap it with cling film, and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
05 - Preheat the oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
06 - On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough to a thickness of 1/5 inch.
07 - Use heart and star-shaped cookie cutters to cut the dough, making a small hole near the top of each piece for ribbons.
08 - Arrange shapes on the prepared sheet and bake for 10 to 12 minutes until edges are just golden.
09 - Allow cookies to cool completely on a wire rack.
10 - Mix powdered sugar with lemon juice or water to form a smooth glaze; add food coloring if desired.
11 - Spread the icing onto cooled cookies and let it set completely.
